Participate in AIGA LA

As a member of AIGA, volunteering for the chapter is a great way to meet other designers, hone your professional skills and give back to your community. Plus, without our dedicated volunteers, we would not be able to carry out the incredible events and initiatives planned throughout the year. So we need you!

Please read through the following volunteer opportunities and choose the roles that most interest you. Your request will be submitted to the proper committee and a chairperson will contact you immediately to get you in the loop. Thank you again for your commitment, we look forward to meeting you!

Membership

Work closely with the membership committee to explain the benefits of membership to potential members, contact lapsed members, and brainstorm new ways to grow our organization.

Membership Recruitment Director: You are the promoter for the AIGA LA Chapter. When someone asks why join AIGA, you say, “How could you not?!” You strategize, initiate, respond and develop relationships with prospective members.
New Member Welcome Director: You are the ambassador for the AIGA LA Chapter. You welcome, engage and guide new members to participate in the AIGA LA Chapter.
Membership Statistics Director: You are the number cruncher. You gather and interpret data to improve the Chapter’s efforts and effectiveness.

Events and Programming

Join our programming committee, which meets about once a month to review the calendar of events and coordinate details such as logistics, entertainment, locations, catering and clean up. You’ll also help brainstorm new ideas for future programs and events. Here are some of volunteer positions needed to support an event:

Event Director: Spearhead the event planning with the support of the Programming Chair.
Event Planning Committee members: Support the Event Director in performing a variety of event planning tasks from venue procurement to speaker travel arrangements to event signage.
Promotional materials designer(s): Work closely with the Event Director and Event Planning Committee members to develop promotional event materials (print & web). Coordinate with Print Director for production of printed collateral. (Note: not every event has event materials designed & produced)
Event set-up and break down helpers (day of event): Set up tables, signage, event-specific equipment, etc. an hour or more in advance of the event.
Registration (day of event): Greet attendees as they arrive, make sure they’re registered and collect the event fee if not. Be prepared to answer questions about the event.

Communications

Join our communication committee, which facilitate communications to our chapter members. You’ll help coordinated web content, social media, event copy, newsletters and blogging. Here are some of volunteer positions needed:

Social Media Specialist(s): Handle communications in regards to events and features and well as maintaining the overlook of AIGA LA’s Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Viemo and YouTube.
Communication Assistant: Assistant in posting events and job listing on AIGA LA’s website. Also, help in other functions that Communications Coordinator and Communication Chair may require.
Graphic Artist(s): Will provide visuals for pint, web and social media base on Communications Coordinator and Communications Chair request.
Event Reporter(s): Attend to major AIGA LA events and will report and edit features for web and social media.
Communication Editor: Help with content for Sync Newsletter.
Blogger(s): Savvy and influential writers who are interested in the LA design and community. Will indentify blogs and other sites and report to Communication Coordinator and Communication Chair.

Education

If you’re interested in working with one of our student groups or can provide mentorship for student events or initiatives, we’d love to put you in touch with our education chairs.

Mentorship Coordinator: Create and support programming to educate and empower future and developing designers, engaging designers throughout the arc of their careers. Responsible for: Acting as point person for Mentorship. Keeping Education Chair and Education Committee apprised of Mentorship status. Researching, developing and executing a Mentorship program that engages future designers at the college and/or high school level, as well as young professionals. Developing promotional copy and materials for communication channels.
Portfolio Reviewer: Are you available to participate in our annual student portfolio review, usually in May? Your commitment will only be one day of your time and it’s a great way to meet recent grads while giving back to your design community.

Development

You’ll work closely with our development committee, brainstorming, establishing and maintaining relationships with potential partners in the business and cultural industries.

Partnership Chair: Person to serve as a business ambassador role, to join other business/ council boards, develop presentation deck focusing on relevancy of design in business using local/national case studies.
