Co-Op Studio in Downtown LA
Graphic Designer looking for 5-7 creative professionals to share work space.
Looking for a shared creative space? Co-op studio forming NOW! (Downtown LA)
I'm a 25 year old graphic designer in the process of starting up a shared studio office space for freelance creatives. I'd like to find 5-7 other up-and-coming creative professionals (graphic designers, web developers, illustrators, photographers, filmmakers, musicians, you name it) to share this beautiful, many-windowed, 1650 sq ft. work space with in downtown LA :
http://www.flickr.com/photos/yoursiderentals/sets/72157623338548224/show/
(click for pictures)
The space is located on the 10th (top) floor of the Allied Crafts Building, right across from Santee Alley in the Fashion District. (
407 E Pico Blvd, LA 90015)
Rent is $1320/mo (all utilities included), and will be divided evenly. Thus, if we have 6 people sharing the space, it will come to $220 each per month. With 7 people, it would be only $188 each per month, and so on. The space is very large, and each person will be setting up a work area of their own. There is also a small inner office, which we will have available for use as a meeting room.
This will be a workplace full of business-savvy, hardworking young creatives with some serious vision up their sleeves. The space will be a blank canvas for us to design and create a work environment that inspires and moves us. It will be a dynamic, collaborative and friendly place, where open communication, respect and positive vibes will abound.
September 1 is our move-in date. No deposit or application fee required, just first and last month's rent. Please send me an email if you're interested, and we'll try to meet up in the next week or two. This is going to be a great adventure, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
I'm also open to the idea of having people who pay to use the space on a more part-time basis as well-- not sure how exactly that would work yet, but it's a possibility.

Details
Los Angeles' legendary Printmarking Shop, Self Help Graphics, invites you for an all night printmaking marathon on Saturday, May 29 starting at 7pm.
We ask you to bring your talent, donate your time and put all your ganas to produce one of a kind monoprints.
The art work produced will be sold at the SHG Annual Print Sale. Artists may keep a percetage of the work they produce if they bring their own paper and some foodies for the potluck. But, of course, if you want to donate it all, we will be forever grateful.
We will provide appetizers, coffee and water to fuel your extra creative neurons.
In these dire economic times, our cultural centers and art workshops are struggling to stay open. One night of your time sharing with friends and colleagues could mean much needed revenue for SHG.

Muriel Cooper’s Information Landscapes
Information Landscapes : a rarely seen video of work from Muriel Cooper and her students at the MIT Media Lab.
In 1994 Muriel Cooper
presented work at the TED5 conference in Monterey, CA that changed the way designers thought of the possibilities of electronic media. The work, from her group at the MIT Media Lab’s Visible Language Workshop (or VLW), took typography, literally, into three dimensions — and gave it dynamics and interactivity that had never been seen before.

Town Hall 09 Take-Away
AIGA/LA is going to be the hub of all things design here in Los Angeles...but first the organization needs to...well, organize.
AIGA/LA is going to be the hub of all things design here in Los Angeles...but first the organization needs to...well, organize. Let's be honest, we'd all love to help out but where do we begin? Where do we go to find out what we can do? Who do we contact (and will he/she respond)? Maybe you have a whole bunch of free time and are ready to dive in and do it all. Maybe you just want to be a part of something bigger but can't give too much of you're time. Whatever the case may be, I hope to help create a place to start. Volunteer Coordinator perhaps?
