AIGA/LA announces partnership with SOTA and TypeCon2010: Babel

Los Angeles, California, July 19, 2010—AIGA/LA, the Los Angeles chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, is pleased to announce a new partnership with the SOTA, the Society of Typographic Aficionados and their annual conference TypeCon2010: Babel. Recognizing a shared commitment to furthering excellence in design as a broadly-defined discipline through its activities and initiatives, AIGA/Los Angeles has formed a strategic partnership with the Society of Typographic Aficionados. SOTA is hosting their annual conference TypeCon in Los Angeles, August 17-22, 2010.

AIGA/LA is an official presenting partner of TypeCon2010: Babel. This partnership includes promotion, programming assistance, local volunteers and the hosting of a cornerstone event “Type that Moves (You)” about the use of type in motion, for television and film. AIGA/LA has embarked on a new effort to connect, inspire, stimulate and support all design professionals throughout the arc of their careers regardless of geography or sub-discipline.

Jimmy Moss, President of AIGA/Los Angeles, explained “SOTA and TypeCon2010 are perfect partners. They share our love of type and typography. Having TypeCon2010 in Los Angeles for the first time is very exciting for us.”

Tamye Riggs, Executive Director of SOTA, indicated “We are delighted to be working with AIGA LA as we bring TypeCon2010 to the great city of Los Angeles. As a volunteer-driven non profit, SOTA relies on the support of invested groups like AIGA LA to help us further our educational mission. Our partnership will give our organizations an opportunity to promote typography and the exciting field of motion graphics to a broad audience of designers and the greater cultural community.”
