Job Description
The Autry National Center is seeking a highly motivated and creative designer with strong typography, graphics, and communication skills to join the Exhibits Department. You will be an integral member of the department, working on a variety of projects, from print pieces, to environmental signage, to 3-dimensional graphics and environments.
Position Summary
The Designer works closely with and supports the Exhibition Design Department to develop, manage, and maintain the immediate and sustained value of the visitor experience. He/She will help to develop design strategies that support the needs of individual projects and the museum.
Essential functions include: preparing models and graphics for presentations and production; developing and coordinating production, delivery, and installation of artwork; and providing support for the conceptualization, development, and implementation of exhibitions and graphics. The ability to interact with a variety of departments, work within budget, and maintain design criteria that meets the clients needs is necessary. Some extended work hours as needed.
Qualifications
A BA in design, studio arts, or museum studies is required as well as 1-3 years of design experience. Must be fluent in the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign. Experience with Vectorworks, and/or Sketch-Up is helpful as is practice in model building and sketching for design development. An understanding of environmental signage or ADA and Universal design guidelines and knowledge of interior design or furniture design is a plus.
