Job Description
California Institute of the Arts is looking for a Web Designer to join our Public Affairs team. The ideal candidate must be a strong designer with experience designing primarily for new media. We are seeking someone with a forward-looking design sensibility who can work with the team's other designers and content writers to produce material that can be adapted across various digital media platforms. An active interest in and experience with information architecture and the ability to enable and enhance user experience are essential. The position will require someone with a passion for front-end web design and a strong appreciation for the technical aspects of digital work, as well as the ability to multitask and handle several deadlines at once.

Primary responsibilities
* Create design prototypes, site design/navigation and layout of web content.
* Conceive of, design and implement dynamic new media projects (web, web mobile, e-mail, apps) employing the most current usability and accessibility standards.
* Ensure that the layout of web-based materials and digital assets are accessible and logical; recommend improvements as necessary.
* Resize and optimize graphics and video from external sources.
* Perform design maintenance and updates to existing website as requested.
* Work with other team members to deliver integrated digital and web solutions across multiple platforms.
* Research and stay current on the latest web technology.
* Maintain an awareness of contemporary graphic design.

Requirements
* A passion for typography, graphic design and design systems, and the details orientation needed to execute visual design well on the web.
* Several years of user-interface design experience for content management systems, the web and mobile, social and emerging media.
* Proficiency of with HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Adobe Creative Suite and experience with cross-platform/browser development.
* A working knowledge of Flash. Familiarity with Drupal theming is a plus.
* Experience developing/working with information architecture.
* Experience working with code and file management repositories such as CVS and subversion a plus.
* Extensive experience working on Mac platform.
* Attention to detail and creativity in problem solving.
* Ability to work in a team and to communicate clearly.
* Enthusiastic with a desire to learn new skills.
* At minimum, a bachelor's degree in graphic design or related discipline with three to five years experience in web design.
* An interest in the visual and performing arts is helpful.

This is a full-time contract position. Applicants will need to have the flexibility to work both on site and remotely.
