Jeri Heiden and John Coy named 2010 Fellows of AIGA Los Angeles.
AIGA Los Angeles to celebrate Heiden and Coy, along with all past AIGA Los Angeles Fellows, on January 20, 2011 at Palihouse in West Hollywood.
December 13, - AIGA/LA, the Los Angeles chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, announced Jeri Heiden and John Coy, as Fellows of AIGA Los Angeles for 2010.
Heiden and Coy were selected as AIGA Fellows, the highest honor an AIGA chapter can bestow on a member, for their significant contribution to raising the standards of excellence in practice and conduct within the regional design community as well as in the AIGA chapter. The areas of education, writing, leadership, and reputation as well as the practice of design are given equal consideration in measuring the significance of their contributions.
Jeri Heiden of Smog Design, studied graphic design and packaging at Pepperdine University and Art Center College of Design. She has lectured and taught extensively, served on numerous design juries and her work has been recognized by the AIGA, American Center for Design, the Type Directors Club of NYC Print, Communications, Arts, Graphis, I.D. Magazine, STEP Inside Design and the Art Directors Clubs of Los Angeles and New York. In 2009, her photography was featured in The Graphic Eye published by Chronicle Books.
Prior to joining Smog in 1999, she spent 17 years working in the music industry at Warner Bros. Record and A&M Records as an executive and creative director. Her work can be seen on over 350 album campaigns and she has received 3 Grammy nominations for packaging design.
John Coy, of Coy, LA, studied Fine Art at DePauw University, and graduated from Art Center College of Design. He established John Coy Design in 1970 and later Coy, Los Angeles with his wife Margaret, in 1980. Clients included: Gemini G.E.I., Los Angeles County Musueum, The Getty Museum, South Coast Plaza, Pacific Design Center, Bijan Fragrances, Quady Winery, and the LA Opera.
John has spoken at many design conferences and judged numerous major design competitions including: CA Magazine, AIGA and Graphics Magazine. He was involved with the founding and served as the first president of the newly formed Los Angeles chapter of AIGA and on the Board of Directors for the chapter as well as on the advisory board for the Los Angeles Art Directors Club. He has taught design at Otis Art Institute of the Arts, Art Center College of Design, UCLA, and Laguna College of Art and Design.
AIGA LA will present the Fellows Award on January 20, at the Palihouse in West Hollywood. They will be joined by past Fellows Award recipients, past AIGA Medalists, the AIGA/LA board and members of the AIGA/LA community. The event will showcase the work of Heiden and Coy, and focus on making meaningful connections between Los Angeles’ established and emerging design professionals.
Tickets to the event will be $10 for AIGA members, $20 for non-members, and available on aigalosangeles.org.
