Doyald, are there any good programs to make fonts in for OSX?
Try FontLab http://fontlab.com
Florian, does Fontlab run natively in X, or does it run in classic? I couldn't really discern this from the website.
Is anybody intirested in forming a type club?
Sure, I guess. What's does a type club do?
Wow, there are other people in LA :) Sounds interesting Florian.....Please tell us more! Who else is in?
Ali, contact John Clark at Looking who once thought of creating a club.
I'm on 9.2 and can open Fontlab.
Fantastic screen resolution.

I'm sure all you type-heads already know about typographi.ca -- but I wanted to post the link for the uninformed. It's a great resource, can lead you to lots of other great type sites -- and its changing top banner was in our discussions when concepting the "skinnability" of this site.
Interesting discussion of Fontlab vs Fontographer going on right now at Typographica
Here's an interesting list of links: Free e-texts on typography.
Also, don't forget typophile.com for discussion and information. Maybe this is the place to generate interest towards the type club...
Did anything ever come of the potential type club?
Just a note to Doyald,
I had the wonderful opportunity to listen to you at the "3 Type Guys" seminar at Art Center and your presentation was just amazing. [I'm an alumn of Art Center] Just like this interview, I don't think there is anyone who one can sit down with and talk about type for hours on end! I must admit, with all of the new generation of letterform, typography going straight to the computer -- I thought all fundamentals of form, craftsmanship, spacing, beauty and originality was going out of the door. But after reading this, there is indeed hope that designers will continue to maintain the integrity of good typography.
Does anybody know how I can find Doyald's book in Los Angeles?
Look at the website for Delphi Press which has ordering information for his two books.
I would like to buy his new book "The Art of the Letter" but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know?
The art of the letter is really worth reading. One can find it atFONTZONE
Does anyone know of any good typography workshops or seminars on the east coast - winter/spring 2005
TypeCon2005 (see here) will take place at Parsons School of Design in New York, July 20-24, 2005
