Because information overload is just a given these days, information design as a practice area has become more and more critical. But, in fact there has been very little written about it, and what has been available has tended to be very academic.

Kim Baer has written a book just published by Rockport Publishers.

The book is divided into two parts. The first half of the book presents in-depth, practical suggestions for how to approach information design projects. The second half of the book presents thirty highly visual case studies and interviews with some of the best practitioners working around the world today.

Hennessey & Ingalls has said this will be the first book signing they've ever done for a graphic design book.

Kim Baer, principal of Los Angeles-based design studio KBDA, developed a very early interest in graphic design as a way to integrate three distinct passions: helping organizations find their voice, exploring the power of the written word, and observing the ways design can make people actually sit up and take notice.

Consistently honored by every major design and organization in the country, KBDA has produced work that has been featured in the Library of Congress and regularly published in numerous design compilations. National design magazines, including Communication Arts, Print, Graphis, STEP, and HOW, have showcased the firm's work and methodology.

Kim Baer frequently judges design competitions and speaks at conferences across the country. She recently received the Fellows Award from the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) in honor of lifetime achievement.
