Event Sold Out!

SOLD OUT! Only pre-registered guests will be allowed entry.

You are invited to the most celebrated design event of the year with an amazing view of Los Angeles and the design community, inside and out. Join us to party among the stars at a 21st floor penthouse in the sky. It's free for AIGA members.

We're honoring the recipients of our AIGA Fellow Award, given to designers who have made a significant contribution to the L.A. design community. A special ceremony will present the 2007 Fellow Award to Archie Boston, Michael Hodgson and Petrula Vrontikis and commend AIGA Los Angeles Fellows Sean Adams, Kim Baer, Buddy Berke, Keith Bright, John Clark, Nan Faessler, April Greiman, David Goodman, Toni Hollander-Morse, Harold I. Huttas, Noreen Morioka, InJu Sturgeon and Deborah Sussman and Doyald Young.

AIGA Los Angeles and our generous Fellows Partners will be groovin' above downtown LA at Elevate Lounge, where indoor and outdoor become one. Come and have a blast.

- Chill with your design collegues in the sleek, ambient atmosphere.
- Dance the night away to the DJ spinning rockin' beats.
- Sample savory Japanese fusion food from Takami Sushi.
- Partake in refreshing cocktails at the stylish bar.
- Enjoy an installation of Fellows' work, courtesy of Brand New School.

Alright Petrula! Well deserved! Forrest & Val & Haley

If you buy your shoes at a retail store, design them and photograph them and send in your photos. You can still be part of the contest. Let us know in your email where you bought them... Maybe we can still get credit for AIGA's scholarship fund and ensure a child in need gets a pair too.

Came all the way from NY and I'm a member of AIGA and couldn't get in. Why would you rent a space that isn't big enough for the whole LA chapter and more?

Doesn't make any sense to be so exclusive. Put a really bad taste in my mouth.

Hi Robert, this is Jae. I spoke to you at the event. I do apologize that we couldn't accommodate. LADD is our biggest event of the year and we do estimate the number of attendees beforehand and try to find a perfect place to host event. It is beyond our control that the number of attendees exceeded our expectation much this year and the venue had a strict code on capacity. If you are coming to our events in the future, please do pre-register or email me with any questions you may have. Thank you....

Because of the noise in the Lounge, and problems with the microphone, many of you could not hear
the acceptance speeches of the fellows.

Below is the text of my speech. Thank you AIGA/LA for this honor. Archie

To: Agustin Garza, Michael Lejuene, past Fellows,
Family, Students (especially my gang at CSULB), Friends, and Enemies:

I AM NOT GOING TO PREACH A SERMON LIKE REV. JERIMIAH WRIGHT, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE RECENTLY CALLED MYSELF, “THE ARCH BISHOP OF BOSTON.” I WILL BE AS BRIEF AS POSSIBLE.

MY FELLOW COLLEAGUE, DAVID GOODMAN, TOLD ME IN AN EMAIL, THAT I AM THE ONLY DESIGNER HE KNEW, BLACK OR WHITE, WHO CAN GET AWAY WITH SAYING JUST ABOUT ANYTHING I WANTED. WELL, YOU CAN SEE BY MY WORK SHOWN TONIGHT, THAT THE DESIGN DOCTOR WAS RIGHT.

I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE 3 CAREERS; ONE IN ADVERTISING, THE OTHER IN DESIGN, AND FINALLY DESIGN EDUCATION. I HAVE ENJOYED MANY LIFE EXPERIENCES, BUT TONIGHT IS ONE OF THE BEST.

RIGHT NOW, JUST SEEING MY FORMER STUDENT, PETRULA VRONTIKIS, RECEIVING THIS ACCOLADE WITH ME, MAKES ME SO PROUD.

NOW FOR MY REV. WRIGHT’S SERMON. MY ADVICE, TO ALL OF YOU THAT ARE ON THE BRANDING BANDWAGON, IS:

TO STRIVE TO BE AS VERSATILE AND AS FAMOUS AS SAUL BASS; TO BE A GOOD BUSINESS MAN LIKE DOUG BOYD; TO BE AS SINCERE AND AS TALENTED AS KEITH BRIGHT; SOLVE DESIGN PROBLEMS WITH SIMPLICITY AND SOPHISTICATION LIKE JIM CROSS; WHEN YOU TEACH, BE AS HONEST AND AS DYNAMIC AS LOUIS DANZIGER; TRY NEW IDEAS LIKE, APRIL GREIMAN, WHO SHOOK UP THE DESIGN COMMUNITY FOR YEARS; EXPRESS YOURSELF ARTISTICALLY LIKE KEN PARKHURST; BE A LEADER LIKE JACK ROBERTS OF CARSON ROBERTS; BREAK NEW BARRIERS AND LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST LIKE BOB RUNYAN.

ALL OF THESE DESIGNERS WERE MY IDOLS, AND I CAPTURED THEM IN MY DOCUMENTARIES THAT ARE NOW IN LIBRARIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

FINALLY, FIND YOURSELF A MENTOR, LIKE MY OLDER AND SMALLER BROTHER, BRAD, WHOSE SHOULDERS I STOOD ON TO GET STARTED IN THIS PROFESSION, AND WHO I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THIS MEDAL WITH TONIGHT.

THANK YOU, AIGA/LA, FOR THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME HONOR.
