The design and production studio Imaginary Forces has continually evolved from its roots as a feature film title design and television branding company. IF now works in a diverse range of disciplines, designing and producing everything from traditional TV commercials to art installations to virtual environments. Several years ago the studio began collaborating with architects and developers, merging its ability to tell stories in a cinematic fashion with plans for three-dimensional spaces both public and private. As a result, IF is now seen as one of the leading practitioners of the growing art of Experience Design. How did the studio go from designing movie titles to designing content and information architecture for such spaces as HBO's new retail store in New York, or the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas? Come hear IF co-founders Chip Houghten and Peter Frankfurt as they provide AIGA members with insights into how they've grown and nurtured a creatively-focused enterprise while opening doors to new categories of business and always keeping an eye on the next new thing coming down the pike in media and entertainment.

Thanks to Chip Houghton, Peter Frankfurt and Sharon Tani for an interesting look behind the scenes at Imaginary Forces. Having been at IF's first AIGA LA presentation, about 10 years ago, it was interesting to see how the firm had evolved, and what they are up to now. Frankfurt & Houghton were very candid about the lessons learned along the way—everything from expecting their staff to leave and start their own companies to the dealing with the complexities of large scale projects to their "pointy elbows" philosophy of jumping in and pushing the firm to try new things that just might not work! Inspiring.
