Get motivated and inspired to upgrade your design career without being limited to head hunters and job boards. Learn how to put together a plan of action that will have you promoting yourself with results. Don't wait for change to happen - make it happen! This class is perfect for entry and mid level designers who are looking to advance their full time or freelance careers.
Here's what we'll cover:
Defining your dream job
What are your priorities? Your long term goals? In-house, corporate, or small studio? What industry? Willing to commute or move? The only way to land your dream job is to know what you're looking for.
Spreading the word
Finding your dream job involves declaring your intention - loud and clear. Learn how to create your dream job "elevator pitch" to share with everyone you meet and to publish on all your materials - in email signatures, on your website or profile, on your resume, and more.
Looking beyond the typical job venues
A company's need for a graphic designer usually exists long before they reach out to headhunters and job boards. So how do you find the jobs? Learn where to uncover hidden opportunities. You will help not only yourself; you can save your potential employer time and headhunter's fees.
Designing your approach
Once you decide what companies to connect with, make your approach all about them. How can you help your dream employer? What's that unique quality that you admire or share with them? Go beyond the typical "I like your company's work and want to work for you". Speak their language and address their needs. Learn the value of sharing genuine ideas, help, and interest.
Building your street team
How to connect (and stay connected) with people that help advance your career - from mentors and business coaches to colleagues who love to refer you.
Getting inspired
You'll hear some great stories and examples of graphic designers' tactics to get hired when there was no job post.
Closing the deal
Once you're in the door, learn how to negotiate for the title, responsibility, and money you want. Know what you're worth and what you're willing to do for a dream opportunity.
The class will be taught by Lea Ann Hutter, Principal and Creative Director at Hutter Design http://www.hutterdesign.com and former graphic design instructor at Parsons School of Design in NYC.
