Science fiction author, futurist and designer Bruce Sterling has been Visionary-in-Residence at Art Center College of Design since January 2005. He has challenged everyone along the way to change the way they think about the future as well as their place in it.

Author of nine novels, contributing journalist to WIRED magazine, blogger and now design columnist, Mr. Sterling is poised to share his experiences to date and give insights into what lies ahead for the balance of his year at Art Center.

During his lecture, Mr. Sterling will discuss his forthcoming book from MIT Press about the future of design, his involvement with the INDEX: Award project taking place in Copenhagen in September, and the state of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology from a designer’s perspective.

Since 1986, the Toyota Lecture Series has enriched the educational environment of Art Center and the community at large. Eminent speakers have addressed international movements in art and design as well as the cultural, historical and political currents that shape the creative process.
