House Industries

16 Jun 2004

The design firm House Industries was founded in Wilmington, Delaware in 1993 by partners Andy Cruz and Rich Roat. In their illustrious and epic ten-year career, they have expertly mastered a large cross-section of design disciplines. From their early forays into distressed digital type to their most recent collaboration with acclaimed architects Richard and Dion Neutra, House Industries continually refuses to be bound by narrow definitions of "design."

AIGA LA was pleased to have Andy Cruz of House Industries speaking at the MOCA on June 16. He talked about the challenges and triumphs his company has had and how they broke into such a wide variety of creative endeavors.

Is everyone aware of the really great fonts, etc. available for sale from these guys?

Check out House Industries live in the studio on typeradio.org... right now!

Andy & the House "guys" are unbelievable! This will be a GREAT Event! You will NOT want to miss it!

How come I didn't get a poster mailed to me about this event?

This gig was well worth the smackeroos. It was great to meet Mr. Cruz and take a tour of the House. And 2 glasses of MOCA Merlot hit the spot on an empty stomach. *Hic!*

Jr - too bad you didn't get a poster in the mail, these guys had a big stack of them on the desk free for the taking. By the end of the night they were all gone. Props to Dual Graphics on the print - very well done.

All in all an enjoyable evening. House Ind. rules the retro rack resource, so definitely hit them up if you need that fix. To the guy from DG (rent Touching The Void - now) and the nice copywriter lady whose name sticker I didn't get a chance to read, thanks for the convo. Fun, sociable folks like yourselves add that dash of spice to these functions, which sometimes tend towards tedium when everyone's just hanging around.

See you next time.

Sorry you missed this event. Posters were mailed but they were late (most people got them in the mail yesterday). We had a mailing problem as well as closed post offices. Also this event was posted on our website for almost a month so we were sure that the word got out (I guess it did because we were sold out).
One correction: Fabulous printing job was done by our annual print sponsor Typecraft, Wood & Jones and Dual Graphics financially supported the event.
Thank you all for coming last night. Andy's talk was full of love for what he does. It was so uplifting to hear him speak.

Great event. Glad I didn't wait for the invite, which arrived in the mail today!

what a great event. the House Industries guys are so innovative - who else can rip themselves off as skillfully as they? Andy Cruz rocks. his passion and creativity is refreshing and that he has such a great sense of humor is wonderful. hearing him speak has no doubt inspired and rejuvinated this burnt out design student. aah..the possibilities! i'm off to find my tracing paper...

House ROCKS! Andy CRuz is the BEST in the Design Graphics Industry! Thanks for the inspiration!

There are a lot designers in the world. But there are a few who are really professional and experienced. I am glad Andy Cruz is the BEST! Keep up the hard work, Andy!
